Penn-Mont Academy wanted to optimize use of their open spaces by integrating educational opportunities as part of an "Open Space and Outdoor Classroom" environment. The plan objective was to encourage children to create their own nature experiences by providing opportunities for physical contact with nature through open space enhancements including fire circles, stump trails, edible gardens, and accessible trails.
WMF worked with Penn-Mont Academy, the first licensed Montessori school in Pennsylvania, to help envision their Open Space Master Site Plan. The initial site planning process resulted in an Illustrative Open Space Master Site Plan and Conceptual Program. The programming studies enabled WMF to assist school administration in developing a scope of work for the Open Space Areas that meets generally accepted design standards and the planning needs of specific development requirements; in particular, a phased and prioritized, multi-year capital development campaign.
"We began our "Learn, Play, Grow - Naturally!" Project with the intent of infusing opportunities for students to readily and safely experience nature, engage in meaningful physical activity, apply knowledge learned inside the classroom and make new discoveries. We needed a firm with vision and expertise to help us create the environment of our dreams and we found that in Weber Murphy Fox. The result was a highly creative yet practical design that exceeded our expectations."
