CLIENT GOALS

For several years, The Hawken School had used the adjacent picnic pavilion to host concession sales, a nearby small ticket booth and temporary portalets during athletic field events which brought challenges - insufficient power and lighting sources, protection from weather, lack of permanent storage and inaccessible rest rooms. Hawken desired an efficient, affordable facility incorporating each function situated close to the athletic field main entry gate that welcomes the players and guests and providing easy access to each field area.

SOLUTIONS

WMF responded to these challenges by designing an athletic field welcome pavilion with fully-accessible concessions, ticketing and rest rooms. Our solution compliments the campus context through a welcoming design that incorporates cladding of cultured stone with board on batten above, asphalt shingled roof. Guests attending the field events are greeted by the ticketing booth and concession windows under awning style doors. This 725 square foot pavilion features accessible, heated rest rooms for men and women, heated concession area with two serving windows, heated ticket booth with two windows to handle different scale events, storage for larger concession equipment, water fountain with touchless bottle-filler and plenty of exterior lighting to support evening events.

RESULTS

This compact, delightful solution is efficient in energy use and of simple wood-framed construction sitting upon a solid concrete foundation. WMF's construction management team provided construction cost estimating; bidding resulted in costs within 1% of WMF estimate.
