Senior Associate

David Thal

David is a Senior Associate with WMF and provides leadership for the firm’s Corporate Studio. As an Architect, Senior Project Designer and Project Manager, David provides hands-on design and management of projects ranging from interior architectural renovations through new ground-up construction. His approach to design is working with each client to create an appropriate and unique design blending aesthetics, cost, performance, and sustainability principles.

With over twenty-five years' experience, David’s work successfully blends aesthetics with functionality. As a result of his extensive travel, study, professional interests throughout this country and Europe, his designs often reflect an experienced attention to detail and commitment to research.

David bridges the spectrum of practicing architecture and teaching design and architecture, allowing each to reflect and infuse the other. David has been an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Kent State University for over 18 years and serves as the Global Education Coordinator for the College (CAED).

David received his Masters of Architecture at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Cincinnati, School of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning.

David sits on various volunteer committees, including The Public Art Task Force for the City of Shaker Heights, OH, and is the Preservation and Beautification Chair for The Lomond Association, a non-profit neighborhood organization within the City of Shaker Heights, OH.

Born in Cleveland, David has traveled the world, returned to Cleveland after his studies, and is proud to teach and practice in his hometown.

FUN FACTS

  • You would be surprised to know: David can be spotted in several movies, including Spider-Man 3 and Captain America-The Winter Soldier.
  • How I got into this business: David’s parent’s recognized his interest in art and architecture at an early age and enrolled him in art studios at the Cleveland Museum of Art and made sure there was an ample supply of Lego products, Lincoln Logs, Tinkertoy construction sets and Erector Sets.
  • When I'm not working: David enjoys living life by spending time with his family and friends and travelling the world, experiencing new ways of thinking.
