Mr. Reichard has recently joined the firm of Weber Murphy Fox to lead our Healthcare Studio. In addition, he will manage our Charlotte, North Carolina office.

David has thirty-years of healthcare architectural experience in planning, marketing, and project management. This includes projects ranging from community hospitals to major university - affiliated medical centers. Highlights of his expertise in the planning and design of healthcare facilities include:

  • Experienced in developing client's Certificate of Need, Master Facilities Plans and other phases of the design/construction process.
  • Effective compliance with all applicable codes and healthcare standards and regulations.
  • A patient advocate familiar with patient-focused care, responsive to the current shift from impatient to outpatient service.
  • Emphasis on broad user input providing key insight to evaluating existing facility conditions, conceptualizing Master Development Plans, and overseeing implementation.

Project Experience

Carolinas Healthcare System-Mercy Hospital, Charlotte. NC

Orthopedic Center of Excellence— Planned a $100,000,000 expansion and renovation to provide an orthopedic center of excellence for Carolinas Healthcare System. It has been the most expansive and complex project for CHS to date due to the very complex interface between existing and new. This interface was required since the client had to keep two operating suite departments operational during and after the completion of the project.

Midwest Regional Medical Center, Midwest City, OK

Expansion Project— Emergency Department Expansion, Women's Services Addition, and Hospital Master Planning. Provided a complete replacement ED for this 300-bed facility while maintaining operations in the existing contiguous department. The expansion needed to accommodate the projected volume of 66,000 visits during construction and after completion.

Women's Center Addition— Master Planning for a new 100,000 square foot, $25 million expansion. Utilized a number of techniques to assist the client in evaluating building design alternatives. These included three-dimensional computer-animated design.

Carbon County Memorial Hospital, Rawlins. WY

Surgical and ICU Renovation— Lead planning efforts for a new Surgical and ICU renovation.

St. Patrick's Hospital, Missoula, MT

Life Science Center— Lead the planning and project team for a new 152 patient bed tower. Estimated cost of construction $352,000,000. This project included renovations of the existing hospital, new parking structures and extensive site renovations.

Springhill Regional Medical Center, Springhill, FL

Obstetrics Expansion-The design for this new center creates an identity and entry for expanded OB services. Courtyards for each LDRP suite are included in the design and are a privacy buffer for patients.

Lancaster Regional Medical Center, Lancaster, PA

Master Plan— Master Planning for a 400 Bed facility assisted the client with certificate of need issues and verification of Bed licensure. The master plan also explored the expansion for major critical hospital departments.

Sebastian River Medical Center, Sebastian, FL

Radiology Diagnostic Center Addition— This 20,000 square foot addition to the existing hospital provides all new outpatient diagnostic-imaging services for Sebastian River Medical Center. The design unified the front entry into a patient-visitor friendly "one-stop" shop.

Lower Keys Medical Center, Key West, FL

Master Plan— Developed a Master Plan for Surgical Services and Emergency Department Expansion for this growing medical center of the Keys. The objective was to provide the necessary amenities to provide patient dignity.

Charlotte Regional Medical Center, Punta Gorda, FL

Master Plan— Comprehensive Master Plan for a facility, which was being considered for total replacement. The result was recommendation for a phased replacement with a new Cardiac Center and outpatient center.

The Children's Hospital, Buffalo, NY

Nursing Floor Renovation— Renovation of existing nursing floor for Children's Rehabilitation with a special Epilepsy Nursing Unit-$1.5 million.

VA Federal Development Plans, Regional Facilities / Various Northeastern U.S. Cities

Facilities Assessment and Master Plan— Conducted facility assessments, developing master plans for each facility. Led efforts to bring closure to a challenging production process - $600 million.

National Institute for Health / Bethesda, Maryland

Program Criteria & Planning Standards Development— Developed program criteria and planning standards for major institute expansion - $400 million.

Cedar Sinai Hospital, Los Angeles, CA

Imaging Services Consolidation— Created alternatives for the consolidation of imaging services - $5 million.

Horizon Health System, Farrell, PA

Master Plan & Construction Coordination— Originated Master Plan and managed construction related to the merger of Shenango Valley and Greenville Hospitals with the Hermitage Corporation - $26 million.

JFK Medical Center, West Palm Beach, FL

Outpatient Services Master Plan—Directed Master Facility Plan focused on outpatient services resulting in a New Ambulatory Care building - $15 million.

Ohio Valley Hospital, Steubenville, OH

Outpatient Master Plan— Implemented various projects developed in a patient-focused outpatient master planning effort $ 12 million.

Windsor Western Hospital Center, Windsor, OH

Long Term Care ISO Bed Center— Developed from inception to occupancy a long-term care ISO-bed center that included an Adolescent Care Unit and a Chemical/Alcohol Dependency Unit - $25 million.

Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington, CT

Hospital Expansion & Renovation— Implemented Master Plan including a New Patient Bed and Support Addition, renovations to Outpatient Services and upgrades to the Energy Center and Parking Deck - $23 million.

Lexington Medical Center, Columbia, SC

Hospital Addition— Responsible for completing a complicated addition and multi-phase project from schematics through occupancy, providing for potential future expansion phases - $19 million.

Providence Hospital, Columbia, SC

ED Expansion— Renovated and expanded emergency and laboratory departments within limited budget while maintaining existing department operations - $0.8 million.

Pardee Hospital, Hendersonville, NC

Surgery Renovation & Expansion— Designed program and concepts for surgery Renovation and Addition - $1.2 million.

New Hanover Regional Center, Wilmington, NC

Master Plan— Generated a master plan of the existing facility, which could be used to facilitate transition to new management - $40 million.

First Health of the Carolinas, Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst. NC

Surgery Expansion— Conducted Surgery expansion project, including MRI, Outpatient Facilities and an Ambulatory Surgery Center - $16 million.

Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville, NC

Surgical Wing Addition— Lead design development phase for surgical wing of Patient Services Addition - $32 million.

University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI

Replacement Hospital— Provided contract documents for a 584-bed replacement facility within a fast-track implementation program, which led to future departmental planning projects - $200 million.

Burn Center Addition— Performed complex documentation of a 16-bed Burn Center Addition to the Replacement Hospital - $2 million.

Riverview Regional Medical Center, Gadsden, AL

Strategic Facility Analysis—Strategic facility analysis was completed to access critical departments. The solution was a new state-of-the-art Women's Center approximately 22,000 square foot connected to the existing hospital.

String Fellow Memorial Hospital Anniston, AL

MOB & Outpatient Services— Master planning for a new 40,000 square foot Medical Office Building, new Endoscopy suite and a reorganization of Outpatient Services.

Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma, Durant. OK

New Women’s Center— Designed, planned and programmed new Women's Center connected to existing hospital. Created a new image for women's services and which allowed the medical center to meet growing patient census for women's services.

International Learning Center for Emergency Medicine, Orlando, FL

Learning Center— Created a new State of the Art learning center, think tank for emergency medicine. The design allowed for latest teaching technologies (i.e. holograms, video conferencing and international electronic exchange).

Winter Park Memorial Hospital, Winter Park, FL

Ambulatory Care— Ambulatory Care Services restructuring, which was, coordinated with Columbia's Project guidelines. This project included a new parking facility for 200 cars, a roadway and utility relocation for a new outpatient Services Addition, New Hospital Entry, ICU Renovation and Central Energy Plant Expansion.

Intra-Coastal Health Systems, Inc., West Palm Beach, FL

The Cancer Institute Expansion— Managed construction of a new Gamma Knife Suite, new entry and 40,000 square foot renovation to a new cancer center. This was part of the master plan implementation.

Providence Hospital, Mobile, AL

Ambulatory Services— A $20 million Ambulatory Services Building constructed over a retention lake. It consolidated all Ambulatory Care Services in one location.

Roper Hospital, Charleston, SC

Ambulatory Care Prototype—Created Ambulatory Care Centers which were to be the model for their system's future freestanding Ambulatory Care Clinics.

New Hanover Regional Medical Center — Cape Fear Hospital, Wilmington, NC

Surgical Department Renovation— Lead planning efforts for a new Surgical Department renovation.

Pharmacy Compliance— Planned pharmacy renovations for US 797 compliance

Veteran's Administration- Sioux Falls, Sioux Falls, SD

Master plan for entire Veteran's Administration Center and associated campuses in South Dakota.

Wake Forest — Baptist Hospital, Stokes County, NC

Replacement Hospital— 34 Bed replacement hospital, which was to be the prototype for future satellite hospitals for Wake Forest University - Baptist Medical Center, including Minimally Invasive Surgery Program.

Morehead Hospital, Eden, NC

Renovations Master Plan— Developed a Master Plan for upgrading all engineering systems, new Emergency and Radiology Department, renovations to existing Bed tower.

Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Shelby, NC

Radiation Oncology & OR Renovations— Developed and implemented Master Plan for new Radiation Oncology Center, O.R. Renovations and various ancillary departments.
